Downtown Orlando Main Street
The City of Orlando recognizes the important role neighborhood commercial districts play in the overall health of the City’s neighborhoods. Sound neighborhood commercial areas contribute to a good quality of life. It can be a positive attraction and a competitive advantage in retaining existing neighborhood residents and attracting new ones. To meet this need, the City of Orlando offered business district revitalization support to Orlando neighborhood commercial districts.
Through The Orlando Main Street Program, districts were chosen using a competitive selection process. Each district receives financial and technical assistance and intensive training in the Main Street approach from Orlando Main Street and the National Main Street Center. In turn, each Main Street organization hires a full time Executive Director, raises matching funds, incorporates its organization and implements its programs according to an annual work plan.
